Then for gems you want magic def as well. Going for plate you'd want obsidian legs and boots for magic def, and you want obsidian magic def type. You get more hp and you get more block + parry. That being said, plate will definitely be the better choice for pure tankiness. If you're going cloth, it will have to be because you want to utilize the 4 piece anthalon proc, which is really good and also really fun to make luscas fly :P.
